Abstract: In order to reduce energy consumption during the sludge treatment process, sludge treatment combined with composting (bio-drying) and carbonization was carried out (See Figure 1). Moisture content of the sludge reduced less than 30% thorough the composting process without adding any fuel, and the addition of sludge char to compost increased the bio-drying rate significantly. A permitted range of initial sludge moisture content was 78% - 81% at the carbonization temperature of 673K - 1173K to sustain self-energy sludge treatment system.
