Among increasing interest in the production of alternative fuels from biorenewable resources, considerable research has provided numerous routes to renewable jet fuels. Along with these new technologies, there is need for design concepts to integrate them with existing industries in order to enable new facilities and ease the transition toward the new renewable biorefinery industry. In this presentation, we explore one such idea in which the alcohols-to-jet conversion technology is implemented into an established kraft pulp mill. By utilizing a large portion of a pulp mill's processes, a biorefinery can be constructed on already established supply lines and facilities with significantly reduced capital investment. This may not only be a possibility to enable to generation of new renewable jet fuels on a large scale, but an option for pulp mills to benefit by reinventing their process and enter entirely new markets.
