What can refineries do in a carbon constrained future? Obviously refineries will produce products to satisfy the product demand slates – primarily liquid transportation fuels. However, refineries can also remove the CO2 emissions associated with their operations. We will explore a CO2 capture concept comprised of a utilities plant that and produces hydrogen for combustion in the refinery furnaces and CO2 to send to storage outside the refinery boundary. This option could be the least-cost pathway for refineries to remove their CO2 emissions.
