Over the last two decades, fuel cells have been intensely researched. Biogas-powered solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) have become prospective devices for stationary power generation. In this work, simulation and economic analysis were performed for a 3 MW biogas-fueled SOFC system. The composition of the anode outlet of the proposed SOFC system contains CO, H2, H2O, and CO2 which is comparable to typical high temperature water-gas-shift (WGS) feed to co-produce hydrogen. The conversion of CO in water-gas shift reaction was 88% with the hydrogen concentration of 35 mol %. Pressure swing adsorption is used to purify the hydrogen. In order to utilize the heat from the WGS reaction, organic rankine cycle (ORC) was used. To our knowledge, this has been the first work on design and analysis of an SOFC integrated into a combined heat, hydrogen and power (CHHP) system.
