Interfacial Phenomena (01C) (PreRecorded+)
Active matter displays a wealth of fascinating behaviors, from the onset of flocking to the formation of living crystals and novel types of phase transitions known as motility-induced phase transitions. From a theoretical standpoint, these systems present unique challenges and form a unique class of nonequilibrium systems, in which every single self-propelled particle achieves a systematic, non-thermal, motion. Here we use computer simulations to unravel the cooperative and emergent behaviors that arise in binary mixtures of self-propelled colloidal particles. In particular, we identify the perception and communication processes involved in the onset of collective motion, phase separation and demixing in active mixtures.
