This presentation will initially summarize previous work on chemical looping for Hydrogen production while highlighting the motivation for the current study. The study will then detail a systematic approach for de-risking technology gaps for scale-up using appropriate experimental studies and thermodynamic simulations. The data obtained from experimental studies and thermodynamic simulations will be used to develop a reactor module design that will be further evaluated using sensitivity studies. The sensitivity studies will use accurate surrogate models constructed from experimental data and black-box optimization principles to identify trade-offs between performance and cost. The overall results will highlight the intricate balance of key operating variables and design parameters that must be achieved to maintain performance advantages of metal-oxide redox schemes at higher pressures.
