The effective use of thermal energy is essential today to decrease the consumption of fossil energy . As an efficient thermal energy utilization technology chemical heat storage system could solve the problem of energy mismatching. In this study Mg(OH)2 was chosen to efficiently store thermal energy at the range of 250-400 oC due to its high energy density and cycle stability, however the slow reaction rate and low thermal conductivity limit its further application. Hence, a new nano composite material combined of Mg(OH)2 and graphene oxide was synthesized. Because of large surface area and strong hydrophilic effect GO was chosen to disperse Mg(OH)2 , this would increase reaction rate and the heat storage performance of the system. The heat storage capacity of Mg(OH)2/ GO reached 958 kJ/kg , furthermore, the thermal conductivity was higher than pure Mg(OH)2. The composite enhanced the heat storage performance of Mg(OH)2 heat storage system.
