Jian-Feng Chen, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing, China

Nanoparticles have tremendously potential applications as a building block in many industrial systems, such as advanced materials, energy, life science, environment, and IT. In this talk, I will firstly illustrate the principle of design and engineering of Nanoparticles by understanding molecular mixing, nucleation and growth kinetics. Based on this principle, we pioneered a novel technology called High Gravity Technology with reactive precipitation and antisolvent precipitation processes, which has been used to synthesize a large variety of inorganic and organic nanoparticles for various applications, such as CaCO3 for reinforcement, Mg(OH)2 for flame retardent, transparent monodispersion of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles for functional inorganic-organic Nanocomposites, and drug active ingredients for advanced drug delivery systems. In this talk, commercial production of Nanoparticles with a large capacity of 10Ktons/a by the High Gravity technology will be addressed. Possible applications of the resultant nanoparticles in developing advanced polymer nanocomposites, including transparent solar-films for energy-saving and pharmaceuticals, will be elaborated.
