346696 Preventing Explosions That Are Felt Around The World
Tolouse. Texas City. Buncefield. Jaipur. Macondo. Amuay. The list goes on and on. Explosion radii are measured in hundreds of meters, the human toll in tens of fatalities and hundreds of injuries, and the financial impact in billions of dollars. On a planet with a circumference of 40,000 kilometers, a population of 7 billion people and a financial turnover of $83 trillion per year, these explosions seem trivial.
However, the shock waves don’t stop at the blast radius. Families and communities are torn apart, companies lose business and innovation opportunities, and the reputation of our industries are reduced, making it harder for our companies to contribute to society. Ripples travel outward and have the potential to touch everyone.
Recognizing these impacts, CCPS (Center for Chemical Process Safety) was created to help industry eliminate accidents. CCPS, with its more than 160 corporate members, leads in the development and advancement of process safety practice and dissemination of process safety knowledge. To help drive continued improvement in the decade to come, CCPS recently published its Process Safety Vision 2020. Vision 2020 defines a future state of process safety and begins to lay out the steps needed to achieve that state.
The goal of this presentation is to describe CCPS’s Process Safety Vision 2020 and continue the process of enlisting support to help make it a reality
