This paper will detail the use of alkylammonium bromides to hydrophobically modify Nafion for use in biofuel cells and biobatteries. Structural characterization of the changes in the micelle structure of the Nafion with different modifications will be shown via transmission electron microscopy followed by transport and extraction data from voltammetry and titrations. After the properties of the modified Nafion are explained, we will detail the function of modified Nafion for biofuel cell and biobattery applications, including enzyme immobilization and stabilization.
