The Membrane Science, Engineering and Technology (MAST) Center is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry–University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC). The IUCRC program was initiated in 1973 to develop long-term partnerships among industry, academe and government. The MAST Center was initially formed in 1990 as the Center for Separations using Thin Films. This Center, based at the University of Colorado - Boulder ran from 1990-2000. Growth in the Centers sponsor base lead to the addition of the University of Cincinnati in 2000 as a new university site and the formation of the Membrane Applied Science and Technology Center. In 2010 the New Jersey Institute of Technology became a new site of the MAST Center followed by the University of Arkansas in 2014. Currently the MAST Center has three university sites, the University of Arkansas, the University of Colorado - Boulder and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. In this presentation, the MAST Center structure will be briefly described followed by a showcase of the cutting-edge research being conducted at the various university sites in collaboration with our industrial sponsors.
