Shale gas has opened the door to new resources for olefin production, but current separation technology still relies primarily upon energy-intensive distillation processes for key separations to take advantage of these resources. This presentation will explain why carbon molecular sieve membranes in asymmetric hollow fiber forms can provide significant positive changes for olefins production. The state of the art, including fundamentals related to this exciting technology will be presented. Challenges and opportunities in implementing the technology as the large scale needed to impact olefins production will also be considered.
