LNG and Safety Concerns

Jean Paul LaCoursiere, Universite de Sherbrooke, Repentigny, QC J6A 3L4, Canada

The paper presents conclusions from a workshop organised by the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, held in Vancouver, B.C., September 11-14 2005.

The themes that were discussed during the workshop follow:

• What is at stakes for industry, governments, non governmental organisations and communities; • Planning and siting LNG terminals; • Prevention, preparedness, response and recovery; and, • Risks for the public.

The conclusions from this workshop bring additional elements that should be considered during the risk evaluation of these infrastructures.
