Welded Plate Exchangers: More Than Ever Needed in Catalytic Reforming

Francois R. Reverdy, Alfa Laval Packinox, 16800 Greenspoint Park Drive, Suite 100 North, Houston, TX 77060

Welded Plate Heat Exchangers (WPHE) have been extensively used in feed-effluent service on catalytic reforming units. However, recent market pressures on energy cost and on the need to reduce atmospheric emissions are giving an increased demand for the best that these heat exchangers have to offer: Outstanding heat recovery, low pressure drop, very large heat duties. This paper will analyze various economic impacts tied to the optimization of catalytic reformers with WPHE's.
