Manipulating Silver Nano-structure using Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

Abstract

This study aims to manipulate silver nano-structure using supercritical carbon dioxide in the presence of polyvinyl pyridine (PVP) and ethylene glycol (EG). The temperature and pressure of CO2 as well as the ratio of the capping agent of PVP to the precursor of silver nitrate are used to control the growths of nucleus and grain for the synthesis of various silver nano-structures in ethylene glycol. Through characterization pf UV-visible spectrum, XRD, TEM, and HRSEM, in particular, the aspect ratio of one dimension Ag nano-material is increased with increasing the pressure of supercritical CO2. This suggests that the lattice plane (111) of crystalline silver is easily promoted by PVP in the high pressure of supercritical dioxide.
