We seldom determine the operating regime that controls a pilot plant.  Thus, we may choose an inappropriate similarity when scaling to and designing a commercial-sized plant with pilot plant data.

This presentation discusses the need to determine the operating regime controlling a pilot plant and it shows how that controlling regime dictates the similarities used when designing a commercial-sized plant.
