Process safety management (PSM) system is a key factor in preventing exposure to hazardous materials as well as major accidents. This makes it a fundamental requirement for managing health and safety in the process industries. Due to the proliferation of a process safety management framework and models, a need has arisen to integrate existing framework and models to ensure a holistic approach of control and continuous learning system. Moreover, as up till now there is no universally accepted process safety management model which treats process safety management as an integral part of good management, rather than as a stand-alone system. There is also a loophole in the route map for implementation and inefficient addressing of human factors by these existing PSM frameworks. An integrated process safety management system (IPSMS) model drawn from screening all existing PSM frameworks is offered so as to provide both a theoretical and practical framework with which to manage measure and analyse process safety management systems. Human factor contributions to process safety are addressed.
