479788 1st Stage Pygas Nickel Based Catalyst Poisons Study

Brian Dillingham, CRI Catalyst Company, Houston, TX

Feedstock flexibility allows companies to look for advantageous opportunities and cheaper imported feeds. However, cheaper raw materials introduce new challenges to crackers and downstream operations, especially raw pyrolysis gasoline processing units.

This paper will focus on some common poisons found in 1st Stage pygas processing units and their impact on nickel based catalyst. The contaminants include carbon disulfide (CS2), and common forms of organic nitrogen, silica, chlorine, arsenic, and lead. The paper studies the short term effect of these poisons on the catalyst performance.
