We have developed new type of nanoporous adsorbent supporting CuCl which exhibits notable performance in selective adsorption of carbon monoxide (CO). The adsorbent was prepared impregnating CuCl on nanoporous matrix via thermal monolayer dispersion method. Owing to the unexpected nature characteristics of nanoporous supporting materials and high affinity of CuCl to CO, the synthesized adsorbent exhibits high adsorption capacity of CO and extremely low adsorption capacity of CO2 under 100 kPa of each gas at 293 K. Thus, this adsorbent exhibits excellent CO/CO2 separation coefficient higher than 10. We have performed systematic investigation on the effect of the supporting material and CuCl to the adsorption of CO and CO2. The achievement of developing highly selective CO adsorbent is attributed to finding new type of suitable supporting material. This nanoporous composite will be promising adsorbent for selective separation of CO from combustion exhaust and industrial off-gas stream.
