Many universities and colleges attempt to present a “green” public image. A survey was conducted at 70 higher education campuses in the United States to determine the level of awareness of and participation in reduction of construction and demolition (C&D) wastes during development of new campus structures. Awareness and reduction of C&D wastes were compared to possible correlated factors including campus location, student demographics, institutional size and economics and admissions selectiveness. In most cases, C&D waste awareness and reduction was not strongly correlated with other factors.
