477232 Expediting Reactor Entry with Chemistry

Kevin Roberts, Refined Technologies, Inc., The Woodlands, TX

Safe entry of reactor high pressure loop systems in hydrotreaters and hydrocrackers can be
expedited by the application of chemistry and procedural changes during critical steps in the
shutdown process. Historically, procedures for removing hydrocarbon and purging light ends
and H2S from these units have included lengthy hot hydrogen stripping and extensive use of
nitrogen purging.
Refined Technologies, Inc. (RTI) patented QuikTurnRX® process has significantly reduced
shutdown duration, nitrogen expenses and flaring while providing safe reactor entry and a
predictable start for maintenance activities.
