Turbine Airfoil Coating and Repair GmbH (TACR Berlin) is a subsidiary of TACR LLC, a Joint Venture of Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation and Chromalloy Gas Turbine Corporation. TACR LLC is located in Middletown, NY, USA.
H.C. Starck is a Bayer Materials Science company producing powders and semi-finished products of refractory metals, hardmetals, metal alloys and ceramics for many industrial applications.
In a joint development project TACR GmbH and H.C. Starck GmbH took an approach to adjust the properties of an agglomerated and sintered YSZ powder to a process setup that had been optimized for a HOSP type powder. Within the OEM approved process parameters, which could be changed within narrow limits only, the grain size distribution of the agglomerated and sintered powder was tailored to meet process parameters and spray setup. Key parameters for the comparison of coating properties and spray behavior were coating porosity and deposition efficiency.
