Plasma spraying is a cost-effective method to produce functional layers in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs). In this study, 8 mol% YSZ electrolyte deposits were prepared using Low pressure Plasma Spraying (LPPS), Atmospheric Plasma Spraying (APS) and r.f. Magnetron sputtering. The microstructure of the three corresponding deposits was characterized by SEM and XRD. The electrical conductivity was characterized by direct current and Electrical Impedance spectrum (EIS) measurements. The overall performance of the YSZ electrolyte layers was also evaluated by testing the complete cell output performance using a tubular Solid Oxide Fuel Cell configuration. The relationship between coating microstructure, electrical conductivity and output performance of the cell was examined. | ||
