LERMPS research covers the main SOFC components: the electrolyte, the electrodes, the reformers (fuel cell stacks) and the flow plates. This paper presents the preliminary results for the development of thinner fuel layers on basis of yttria doped zirconia on that we performed coatings with different material to increase the reforming efficiency. Using thermal spray process we focus to develop reformers for residential power systems fed by natural gas, fossil fuels or bio-fuels. Different elements that doped the original surface of yttria doped zirconia have been tested to extract hydrogen from fossil fuels with different results.
