The specific advantages of TiC as a hard material are its low density, high hardness and the high alloyability of the hard phase - binder metal composite. Currently developed alloyed TiC-based powders with core-rim structured cubic (Ti,Mo)(C,N) hard phases and Ni/Co binder were intensively studied in the last few years for thermal spray coating solutions. The feedstock powder is produced by agglomeration and sintering. In the work described in this paper such powders together with mechanical mixed additions were used to produce wear resistent coatings by plasma-transferred arc welding (PTA) and laser cladding. Basic process parameters, coating microstructures and properties are described. Due to differences in metallurgy compared to WC- and Cr3C2-powders less metallurgical reactions are relevant for the coating process, leading to a high reliability. | ||
