Functional properties of NiTi shape memory alloys are strongly depending by microstructure and crystallographic texture. Electron BackScatter Diffraction  (EBSD) analysis is an emerging and powerful tool for combined microstructural and texture investigation: grain size and crystallographic orientation can be locally analyzed also on large areas.

In this work EBSD was used for crystal orientation mapping of polycrystalline Ni50.8Ti49.2  alloy at several thermo-mechanical conditions.  The results pointed out the evolution of texture as well as grain refinement during hot rolling and cold working and preferred orientations depending upon method and degree of deformation were observed.
