Angela Davis remains one of the most highly visible symbols of Black radicalism in contemporary America. While there has been much work on the ways Davis’ political commitments reflected a critique of capitalism and an embrace of Black self-determination, this paper centralizes Davis’ feminist political activities and theoretical interventions. It pays particular attention to Davis’ commitment to anti-imperialist politics, supporting the movement against the Vietnam war, struggles against neo colonialism in the Caribbean and Africa and struggles for Palestinian self-determination as expressions of her feminist consciousness. It argues that Black women pushed socialist and radical feminism in an anti-imperialist and transnational direction through their activism in the 1960s and 1970s.
