Session Abstract

This panel looks at the work of activists in K-12 education, in the US and Australia. Faron Levesque and Mary Finn discuss the role of activists in addressing gender and racial inequalities in education in the contemporary USA. Isobelle Barrett Meyering and Diana D’Amico focus on an earlier phase of activism - Barrett Meyering on feminist groups visiting high schools in Australia in the 1970s, and D’Amico over the professionalisation of teaching in New England over the first half of the twentieth century.
