Am I Enough is a collection of works by artist Stephanie Brown that features sculptural works, autobiographical writing, photography, and interactive installations. Her work challenges the psychological decisions we make as we construct our identities by pulling from dominant media, the judgement of our communities, and self-affirming family values or lack thereof. The installation critiques colorism and its relationship to self-esteem. By exploiting the language and assumptions of advertising in public spaces, as well as illustrating the unconscious decisions made in private spaces, Brown reflects on her own journey to understanding how brown skin became inferior.
Stephanie Brown holds an MFA degree in interdisciplinary arts from the University of Michigan and a BFA in photography from Savannah College of Art & Design. She has been investigating colorism and it’s societal impact for 4+ years.
