This presentation takes on solidarity as its subject, its object, and its orientation. Using case studies drawn from performances, exhibitions and artist residencies in Chiapas, Berlin, Venice, and the Philippines, I ruminate on the building and breaking of affiliations and affections in institutionalized spaces which imagine themselves as decolonial, feminist, and queer. These actors and spaces operate in/on oceanic geographies, and focus on themes of ecological crisis and Indigenous/Black/queer survivance—though often fall short in their promises for otherwise relations. Wishing to forge ahead with the project of solidarity despite its inevitable dissolutions, I linger with these entities to salvage other ways of living and being on a dying planet.
