Brown plant hopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stål, Homoptera: Delphacidae) is one of the most destructive insect pests in rice production system in Korea as well as in Asia as a whole. To predict population behavior better in BPH expert system temperature-dependent development was studied in detail under laboratory conditions (R.H. 70-80%, L:D 16:8 h) from 15걸 to 32.5걸 with 2.5걸 interval. No egg development occurred under 15걸. The developmental threshold for small instars (1-3 instar) was 12.2걸 and 11.3걸 for large instar (4-5 instar). Fecundity was the highest at 27.5걸 Optimal temperature for development was 27.5걸. Basic structure of BPH expert system was presented with its limitation. Integration of the results on BPH expert system are further discussed.
