Nutrients such as phosphorous (P): Only three kinds of rocks play a source of nutrients, (a) Continent-forming TTG (granite), (b) Primordial continents anorthosite with KREEP basalts, and (c) Carbonatite magma. Primordial continents were a key to bear life, and accumulated TTG crust was another key rock enabling evolved life up to metazoans. Carbonatite played a birth of new species in a continental rift through evolution.
Ocean chemistry: Primordial ocean separated from primordial atmosphere must have been extremely acidic pH=1-2 enriched in halogens (Cl, F and others), S and N and metallic elements (Cd, Cu, Zn, and others) to interfere the birth of life. Plate tectonics cleaned up these elements interfering RNA by forming ores at mid-oceanic ridges and transported to the trench and finally into mantle by subduction. Halogens were finally omitted from ocean as evaporates into mountain belts in the Phanerozoic.
Initial ocean-mass: Birth of life and aftermath of evolution must be possible in the habitable zone under a tight initial condition 3-5km thick ocean because of supply of sufficient nutrients. If the continents are covered completely by ocean, nutrients cannot be supplied into ocean except ridge-hydrothermal system which has a potential of 10-6 times effective than the surface of the Earth.
Size of planet: The Earth is characterized by the unusually small amounts of water since its birth, and this caused birth of life and its evolution up to metazoans through the golden time of life in the Phanerozoic. Dawn of Phanerozoic was opened by the initiation of return-flow of seawater into mantle, by which huge landmass appeared above sea-level, and distributed nutrients in a global scale. Oxygen pump played a critical role to keep high-PO2 in atmosphere since then, thereby birth of ozone layer enabled animals on land with plants. To enable the Earth as a habitable planet with animals, the initial condition of 3-5km thick ocean was the most critical factor in addition to distance from the central star Sun. The size of Earth determined the timing at 4.0Ga to decrease the sea-level by return-flow of seawater into mantle.
