Improving the resistance to preharvest sprouting in modern bread wheat (Triticum aestivum. L.) is an important goal for wheat breeders globally. Marker assisted selection has been utilised by breeders for a major QTL located on the long arm of 4A, however the  associated gene/s underlying this QTL have not been identified and the markers available currently are not always diagnostic. The dormancy phenotype is strongly influenced by environmental factors making selection difficult and time consuming and hence the identification of a perfect marker or causal gene would greatly increase selection efficiency. Here, we present an update on our work towards characterizing this important QTL using a four-parent MAGIC population, RNA sequencing and the IWGSC genome survey sequencing contigs.
