Several important legume crops including mungbean (V. radiata), blackgram (V. mungo), and azuki bean (V. angularis) belong to Vigna species, and the speciation and domestication trace of these species could be diverse. Illumina Hiseq 2000 produced 3 to 5Gb of paired-end reads of 22 Vigna species including wild species and cultivars and assembled to contigs using Trinity software resulting N50 value around 2kb. With the non-redundant complete coding sequences from the contigs we traced the pattern of domestication and speciation. We also retrieved the domestication-related genes of the agronomically important traits including nitrogen fixation and developed associated SSR and SNP markers for breeding program.
