Shrimp Epigenomics

The workshop will inform about 'THE SHRIMP EPIGENOME(shrimpENCODE)CONSORTIUM' and research proposed to test the hypothesis that Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS)/AHPND disease, caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus, is an epigenetic disease, epigenetic changes caused by the interaction of environmental stressors [endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), feed ingredients, others] and bacteria present in shrimp ponds and ecosystem sediment/water. EMS is causing billions of dollars in losses to the shrimp industry worldwide. We will discuss new genomics and epigenomics resources needed to address emerging diseases, with focus on the intragenerational effects of EDCs and nutrition on the transcriptome and epigenome.
