The European Bioinformatics Institute part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL-EBI) provides freely available data from life science experiments and tools for data analysis. It performs research in computational biology, and also offers user-training programme in academia and industry. In this workshop, we will introduce some of the EMBL-EBI resources, focusing on: 1. Ensembl, project launched in 1999 to provide high quality, integrated annotation and access of chordate and selected eukaryotic genomes. 2. Ensembl Genomes, Ensembl sister project launched in 2009, which provides annotation of more than >25,000 genomes from our five sub-portals (namely bacteria, protists, fungi, plants, and invertebrate metazoa) 3. EVA (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/eva/?Home), the European Variation Archive launched in October 2014, which offers a comprehensive repository of all variation data from any species and accepts submission of new variation data from the scientific community. In addition to the resources for analysing genomes and for custom annotation, the EMBL-EBI offers advanced bioinformatics training to scientists at all levels, from academia to industry through our workshops, webinars and our training modules from the Train Online platform.
