Plenary Lecture: Xiaofeng Cao - "Epigenetic Regulation in Higher Plants"
State Key Laboratory of Plant Genomics and National Center for Plant Gene Research, Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, CHINA
Dr. Xiaofeng Cao obtained her B.Sc and M.Sc degree in Biochemistry from Peking University and China Agricultural University, respectively. She received her Ph.D. training in Molecular Biology both from Peking University and John Innes Center at Norwich in UK. During her postdoctoral training, she worked with Dr. Steve Jacobsen at UCLA, where she initiated her studies of DNA methylation and gene silencing in Arabidopsis. In 2003, Dr. Cao received “The Young Talented Investigator Award” and became a professor at the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, China Academy of Sciences.
The Cao lab focuses on epigenetic regulation in higher plants using both Arabidopsis and rice as model organisms. Her lab is interested in understanding how gene expression is controlled by histone methylation and small RNA involved in developmental regulation, genome stability and stress response. Dr. Xiaofeng Cao has received many awards including “China Young Female Scientists Awards, 2010”, “National Outstanding Scientist Awards, 2010” and “DuPont Young Professor Award, 2008”. She is editor for several leading journals including “The Plant Cell”, “Current Opinion in Plant Biology” ect.
