With ever decreasing costs of DNA sequencing comes the opportunity for anyone to sequence the genome of any organism they wish. However, the transformation of these raw data into usable information requires computational tools; ideally, computational systems that make these transformations available for any scientist. The comparative genomics platform, CoGe, provides access to over 20 web-based tools for analyzing and comparing genomes. This past year, the CoGe team has been working on developing a robust User-Data Management System (UDMS) with support for experimental data. The system permits individual users to manage their own data, keep their data private, share their data with collaborators, and build lists of data to use in CoGe’s applications. Experimental data includes various types of quantitative genomic measurements including expression data, epigenetic data, and old array data. This workshop will demonstrate these new data management features by loading a private genome into the system, sharing that genome with collaborators, building a list of related genomes for comparative genomics, adding in experimental data, and visualizing all those data together. Many aspects of these new systems rely on cyberinfrastructure provided by and available through the Powered by iPlant Program.
