The URGI (Unité de Recherche en Génomique-Info) is an INRA research unit in genomics and bioinformatics dedicated to plants and crop parasites. It hosts a bioinformatics facility which develops and maintains an information system called GnpIS (http://urgi.versailles.inra.fr/gnpis).

Due to technological advances in high-throughput sequencing (Next Generation Sequencing), the volume of data to analyze increased. To answer NGS needs, the facility had to improve its information system in order to manage NGS experiments, runs and related analyses.

GnpSeq NGS is the new tool developed for GnpIS to manage NGS data (http://urgi.versailles.inra.fr/sequence). A series of search forms facilitates the query and retrieval of NGS data from the database. The run card gathers all representative information of the run, such as the biological material, the description of the sequencing experiment, an overview of the bioinformatics analyses performed, its sequences and other documentation files. Some analysis tools, such as URGI’s Galaxy pipelines are easily reachable from the run card for further data analysis.

Moreover, due to interoperability with the other tools of GnpIS, the run card gives also access to more specific information, such as polymorphism detection analysis.

Concerning data, GnpSeq NGS contains today wheat sequencing and grapevine polymorphism detection data but is ready to host new projects in the future. A part of these data is already freely available on the public version of the application. The other part, awaiting publication, is only available to a restricted group.
