The ‘perfect storm’ of population growth and climate change place huge demand on countries to increase investment in crop production. Improving crops through genomics applications is considered to be one of the most likely approaches to succeed. Genomics advances are driven by rapid improvements in DNA sequencing technology. However translating the genome technology to increase crop resilience and yield in the field remain a challenge.
This presentation will provide an overview of recent advances in genome sequencing technology and how these can be applied to improve our understanding of crop genome structure and expression, with applications in breeding to improve yield under increasingly hostile environments.
