Sheer size and complexity along with polyploidy puts severe limitations on the genome accessibility of the large bread wheat genome. We aimed to reduce complexity of sequencing, assembly and analysis by dissecting the genome into individual chromosomes and chromosomes and subsequentially undertake deep coverage chromosome shotgun sequencing. This chromosomal genomics approach allows to assemble individual chromosomes and thus also allows to separate and analyse homeologous chromosomes. Along with RNAseq data from different tissues this approach allows to gain an unparalleled view of genes and content of individual chromosomes and an overview on the transcriptional output of the genome. The presentation will focus towards a comprehensive overview of the analysis with respect to whole genome overview, homeologous relationships and structural similarities and differences as well as gene content and functional and transcriptional output.
