iPlant State of the Collaborative Address
Time: 10:20 AM
With 8,000 registered users and growing, the iPlant Collaborative delivers a community-driven cyberinfrastructure (CI) for life science research. iPlant CI democratizes access to resources for high performance computing, large scale data storage, and analytical software needed for a variety of data- or compute-intensive research applications. iPlant’s CI empowers a broad spectrum of researchers and scientific developers to use new computational techniques for discovery. In this mini-symposium, five members of the iPlant user community, representing both plant and animal research, will highlight how iPlant’s CI platform has provided scalable solutions to accelerate their research.
Some aspects of iPlant’s CI that will be covered at this workshop include:
- Discovery Environment: A powerful web portal for managing data, conducting analyses, and building workflows. Complex bioinformatics applications can be run without the command line programming, and users can customize the platform by integrating their own tools.
- Data Store: Scalable, secure, and reliable storage for gigabytes to terabytes of data.
- Atmosphere: 1-click, on-demand cloud computing, comparable to Amazon Web Services, but simpler and free.
- Foundation API: Web services to provide access to high performance compute resources in the XSEDE supercomputer network.
Pre-PAG iPlant Workshop: Please attend the free half-day iPlant workshop on Jan 11th, 1:00PM-7:00PM at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina (adjacent to San Diego International Airport). This workshop will provide a hands-on introduction to iPlant, with guided labs on example analyses such as RNA-Seq. Lunch will be provided.
