Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are engineered to convey resistance to disease or other favorable traits.  Labeling and identification of GMOs in commercial products have become a global concern.  There are two standard methods for identification of GMOs: quantitative real-time PCR and end-point digital PCR.  In this study, we demonstrate the utility of the Fluidigm BioMark HD system in conjunction with the Dynamic Array™ or the qdPCR 37K™ integrated fluidic circuits (IFCs) for real-time GMO detection.  Real-time analysis provides Ct values for each result to identify false positives and greater data confidence.  We use the cotton genome and cotton GMO event GHB 614, to determine the limit of GMO detection in real-time analysis on the 96.96 Dynamic Array IFC and the limit of GMO detection in real-time analysis in the qdPCR 37K IFC.
