Cyberinfrastructure, or platforms to support data acquisition, storage, computation, analysis and sharing includes elements of hardware, software, data and people. There are several initiatives of national and international scope aiming to develop sustainable cyberinfrastructure systems, including iPlant/iAnimal, and the US-EU Biotechnology Working Groups in Plants and Animals. In this presentation, I will provide an update on these activities and opportunities for involvement by aquaculture researchers. Programs that support development of cyberinfrastructure, database and database management tools will also be described.
