Plant Cytogenetics

In memory of Simon Chan Simon Chan was a young, talented scientist who attended the Plant Cytogenetics workshop at PAG in recent years and was a Workshop speaker in 2011. Simon discovered novel features of centromere inheritance in plants, with important applications in plant breeding. Those of us who had met him were immediately impressed by his enthusiasm and openness, not only for explaining his research but also ensuring that members of his lab were given the opportunity to develop their own independent careers. He was working on developing contacts for his group in hospital waiting for a liver transplant up to the end.
