The recent development of high-throughput ‘omics’ analysis techniques has led to the production of huge data sets allowing a detailed insight into the molecular response of plants. However, the produced raw data needs to be assessed and interpreted within their context to extract biologically relevant information.

The German plant primary database, a database which hosts primary data from various projects, makes these data available and puts the data into a relevant context for display and download. To name just a few example the database offers access to sequences, images, phenotypes, web-based sequence analysis tools, omics datasets, marker information, gene classifications, transcriptomics, proteomics and end user tools allowing users to analyze and visualize their omics data. However the database also features large sets of mostly manual annotations stemming from e.g. the MapMan project. This data is being made available by webservices and will tightly be linked into the IAIC portal. This will allow getting additional annotation sources as well as primary publications relating to individual genes. These annotations are also linked to the gene class annotations using the evidence code ontology. In addition web based tools will be linked in which could be tools like e.g. Mercator allowing large scale functional gene annotation of newly sequenced species.
