Ever since BGI launched the million plant and animal genome project, different plant and animal species have been sequenced and studied. In total, more than 200 plant species have been sequenced for reference genome construction, and more than 50 plant species have been sequenced in the population. For the reference genome construction, different assembly strategies have been established for different plant species. Whole genome shut gun strategy combined with second generation sequencing has been used widely for species with simple genome. BAC to BAC or fosmid to fosmid strategy combined with second generation sequencing has been used for highly repetitive or highly heterozygous genomes. And other data, including long fragment sequencing, third generation long read sequencing, optical based physical data, etc., have also been applied in different cases for further improvement of the genome assembly. For the population resequencing, different studies have been conducted in different species especially for application purposes. Here, the overall situation of the plant genomic studies at BGI will be summarized, and examples will be given on different subjects of the plant genomic researches.
