Cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) has since the 1930s caused immense suffering to communities that depend on cassava in the eastern and southern Africa region. In Uganda, this disease reached epidemic levels in the 2004. Since then (2004 to 2014), concerted efforts have been underway to both learn and also control the disease in parallel. These efforts have been possible through extensive collaboration with several regional and international academic and/or public research institutions. Cassava farmers too have played a pivotal role in combating this epidemic. Overall, in the last 10 years, great progress has been made in Uganda. Herein we discuss the efforts undertaken within the realms of etiology, epidemiology, virology, breeding and genetics, transformation and science-communication towards the control CBSD in Uganda.
