In collaboration with the Human Reactome project, Gramene has developed a new platform for the comparative analysis of plant metabolic and regulatory pathways. The core unit of the Reactome data model is the reaction. In addition to classical biochemical reactions, changes in state, such as binding, activation, translocation, degradation and regulation are also represented as reactions, and the reactions are grouped into pathways.  Here we present rice regulatory and metabolic pathways on the Reactome platform.  The current Plant Reactome featuring over 150 rice pathways was built by a combination of computational conversion of RiceCyc, projections from human Reactome, de novo reconstruction of reactions on the Reactome platform, accompanied by manual curation. We are in the process of extending the Reactome platform to Arabidopsis as well as expanding the analytical capabilities of the Plant Reactome.
