Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) was formed in 1999 by merging the Department of Plant Physiology at Umeå University and the Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS) is cooperation between Karolinska Institute (Stockholm), Umeå University and Uppsala University and was established in 2010 as a government-funded, non-profit strategic resource for academic researchers across Sweden. CBCS coordinate, and makes available, a powerful academic framework of infrastructures for the discovery, development and utilization of small-molecules and molecular probes for life-science application. The node in Umeå, Laboratories for Chemical Biology Umeå ( LCBU), has since 2006 offered open-access to small molecule screening for academic research groups, research institutes and SMEs via services in liquid automation, assay development, chemical library screening, medicinal chemistry, target identification and preclinical profiling. Here we present recent activities in research, within the UPSC, and how the uses of the facilities offered by LCBU enable novel discoveries in the world of Plant Science.
